Common issues when using AltStore and how to fix

AltStore is a utility tool for iOS users. This application allows you to install .ipa files directly without jailbreaking your device. But in the process of implementation, there are a few errors that make users difficult. Try reading some of the information below, maybe it helps with the problem you’re having. Note that this information applies to how to install and fix it on a computer running the Windows operating system.

How to install AltStore?

The installation process is so complicated that you don’t have the necessary knowledge or you don’t know how to start? Instructions are many on the internet, for example, you can see the instructions to install IPA for iOS devices using AltStore in my previous post right Here.

Some common basic errors

  • Test by opening iTunes and see if the dialog pops up, make sure you have “trusted” your phone.
  • You need to download the latest version of iTunes and iCloud “directly” from the Apple homepage (not from Microsoft Store).
  • Make sure iTunes and iCloud are running while using AltServer to install the app.
  • Right click on AltServer and select Run as Administrator.
  • Check your Windows firewall may be blocking network connections to AltServer.

Unable to install AltStore on the device

Try using a different Apple ID account or create a new Apple ID to use.

Stuck at the login screen

Are you using public WiFi? This can prevent devices from detecting each other. Try connecting to your phone’s hotspot and try again.

Could not find Altserver

Make sure AltServer is running and connected to the same WiFi network as your Iphone, Ipad device. If necessary, try connecting to your phone’s hotspot and try again.

Ipa file not showing in app

  1. This error can happen quite often, but the fix is extremely simple. When finished downloading ipa, select “Add”, then select “Copy to Altstore”. (Different ios versions may differ slightly in this section)
  2. In addition, users can also download the ipa file on the computer. Then add to icloud and wait for the data to sync to your device.

Application does not refresh automatically

IOS determines how often to wake apps in the background based on how often you open the app. So we strongly recommend opening AltStore at least every few days. Otherwise, iOS may decide you’re no longer using the app and stop waking it up in the background. If you can’t do anything else, you’ll have to manually refresh the app.

Are you worried about certificate revocation?

Apple allows anyone with an Apple ID to install apps they’ve built on their own devices for testing. AltStore uses your Apple ID to communicate with Apple’s servers on your behalf and take the necessary steps to install apps onto your device. Each user account has its signing certificate. Since AltStore doesn’t use enterprise certificates, you don’t need to worry about this.

So why will the application expire after 7 days? Apps installed using a non-developer Apple ID are only valid for 7 days. But don’t worry, AltStore will try to periodically refresh apps in the background, or you can do it manually in AltStore.
